Portland Wiring harness builds wiring harnesses for autonomous machines every day of the week and has for years. We began with mil-spec aero space standards and we have analyzed those standards in comparison to mechanical limitations of civilian transportation connectors. We have come up with entirely new test standards. These standards are used for in-house production of harness looms standards of quality. It has been expressed to us by customers that they are adopting our standards for "life safety" critical circuits.
Our standards include wire gauge specifications. Temperature range acceptability inside the wire harness loom. Temperature tolerance of wiring insulation. Pull testing values for each connector as applied to manufactures recommendations. Portland Wiring harness has made a kind of overlay that factors commercial standards with mil-spec and aero space factors.

"Test standards for Autonomous wiring"

Portland Wiring harness builds wiring harnesses for autonomous and robotic transportation devices every day. Portland Wiring harness is focused on the development of measurement protocols that increase the safe use of wiring harnesses in autonomous self driving cars and trucks. We began with mil-spec aero space standards and we have modified those standards in precision measurement of physical and mechanical limitations of civilian transportation connectors. We have come up with an entirely new set of test standards. These standards are used for in-house production of harness looms with new standards of quality. Customers have expressed that they are adopting our standards for "life safety" critical circuits.
The new standards require new wire gauge specifications are a product of Portland Wiring Harness's original prime research that could only be accomplished by a company such as Portland wiring harness. Portland Wiring Harness is creating a frame work for standards to be applied to Autonomously operated vehicles. There are specific time frames that wiring harnesses are safe to operate. Out side these parameters wiring looms become subject to weaknesses do to the chemical and mechanical breakdown of critical connections. Mathematically predicting when these windows of operation are open or closed is the main thrust of our research. Our goal today is to reliably be able to build or produce a harness for a customer and then supply the customer with a maintenance schedule and a total number of hours that it can be safely used.
Historically wiring harness deterioration has never been an issue in commercial transportation because the fail safe has always been the human in the loop. Accurate measurement of all variables is possible at this time. We can monitor in a laboratory setting, these factors;
vibration,
temperature,
humidity, (Humidity non-condensing)
strain relief,
oxidization rate,
Cathotic reactions
off-gasing of automotive components in close proximity.
With these measurements in hand, we can produce a chart of predictability for wiring harness looms failure. Thus, we have created a chart of values that will give a operational window for each harnesses period of most reliable performance under load.

Connector testing: Portland Wiring harness tests connectors for strength. This test is usually destructive and monitors the wire and connectors interaction resulting in failure of the connection. Many factors can be modulated to increase strength of crimp and elimination of oxygen from the newly made connection.

"Extending life of wiring harness " It is possible to wrap a harness with materials that will move the heat out of the wire bundle. Portland Wiring harness makes materials that hold wires tight but also promote air movement with in the wire bundle. Thus extending the life of the harness loom.
